Links I love – Modern Mrs Darcy

What’s in store for your weekend? I’m soaking up lots of family time while my oldest is home for spring break, and am taking a quick overnight trip with another kid this weekend. I hope to squeeze in reading time, a nice long walk before the forecasted rain, and maybe even another episode of Severance season two? (We watched “Woe’s Hollow” last night and: WHOA.)

I hope you have something good to look forward to these next few days, and that this collection of interesting reads and favorite things helps ease you into that weekend frame of mind.

My favorite finds from around the web:

I offer gift links for articles whenever possible (you may still need to create an account with the publication); if there’s no gift link and you’re not a subscriber, check to see if your library carries the publication or use a service like Pocket.

Martin Scorsese to Adapt Marilynne Robinson’s ‘Home.’ (Publishers Weekly) Unexpected development!

12 Creative Road Trips You Didn’t Know You Could Take In The U.S. (Bustle) Yes, please!

The books that shaped me: Will edition. (MMD) Get to know my husband Will through the books that influenced him over the years. (I love the comments on this one!)

Through LEGO Compositions, Katherine Duclos Grounds Chaos in Color. (Colossal) Gorgeous photos—I wish I could see this exhibit in person.

Old Navy consistently has the CUTEST graphic tees at such a great price! Do I want to be an Iced Coffee Girlie or Dog Mom, or perhaps rep the Coastal Café or Bluebird Floral Shop? This Stay Wild shirt is also such a lovely color. (All XS–4X) I’m 5’9″ and while the fit on the Medium is technically correct, I go Large to allow for the shrinkage that always happens with Old Navy tees (even though I typically air-dry them).

The Great Salt Shake-Up. (The Atlantic gift link) This story of how kosher salt replaced table salt in American pantries went in some interesting directions.

Michelle Zauner’s Success Nearly Destroyed Her. (Vulture) I LOVED her memoir Crying in H Mart. “It’s so fun and amazing to travel the world and play shows, but it requires a lot of being absent from your life. It’s an incredibly privileged position, but there were parts of it that were really quite hard. And I think that was sad for me because I had achieved this dream of mine, and parts of it were difficult.”

Will aspires to bake his way 100% through Yossy Arefi’s delightful little cookbook Snacking Cakes. (His progress keeps stalling because we keep asking him to make the Black and Blueberry Ricotta Cake again and again—it’s so good!)

“A Conflicted, Imperfect Love.” Jesmyn Ward on William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying. (Literary Hub) “Perhaps so many great writers are born of this state because this place has endowed us with the particular temperament that demands we witness both the outrageous pain and the outrageous beauty of Mississippi. Perhaps we all share the same horror and awe at how the two are so closely intertwined here, how they seem to grow from the same root like a possum oak and a Spanish oak, one black-barked and prone to rot and breakage, the other feathered in small green ferns and a mosaic of moss.”

Why I track my reading on spreadsheets. (MMD) “Tracking my reading on a spreadsheet brings me both a lot of joy, and many insights into my reading.”

11 Little Ways to Fall Back in Love With Reading. (SELF) Great tips.

I ordered this Quince European Linen Square Neck Jumpsuit (XS–XL) on a whim along with some sweaters I knew I wanted, and I LOVE it. I’m 5’9″ and the small is perfect. I went with basic black and no regrets but the patterns sure are cute!

2025 Audie Awards Winners. (Audio Publishers Association) Heads up, audiophiles!

Ramadan Kareem. (Crème de la Crème) Lovely piece from Aminatou Sow on grief, Ramadan, and her relationship to being Muslim. “Fasting is a sacrifice that reminds me how much my community means to me, how badly I want this world to be a better place and above all, it reminds me of the woman who taught me the importance of both of those things.”

A Crowning Moment for the New Orleans King Cake. (The New Yorker) “During Carnival, the ingenuity of the city’s bakers is on full display.”
